LAHORE: PHP arrested 54 criminals along with seven proclaimed offenders and recovered 490 kg unhygienic meat and 307-litre liquor. PHP arrested seven proclaimed offenders, three absconders and four kidnappers and recovered an abducted boy from them. PHP arrested 20 people and recovered 307-litre liquor and 490-kg unhygienic meat. PHP arrested fourteen criminals and recovered stolen timber worth Rs 3, 70,000, a snatched bike and illicit arms. PHP arrested two robbers and four others on criminal charges. PHP reunited six missing children with their families.

Woman strangled in Lahore by husband on suspicion

LAHORE: The mother of two children was strangled by her husband on suspicion in Lytton Road area on Sunday. Kashif Imran, a rickshaw driver of Bagh Gull Begum, suspected that his wife Anam, had relations with a man and often questioned her about her alleged relations. On the day of the incident, he strangled her following a quarrel over the issue and surrendered to the police and confessed to his crime.

Man crushed by Allama Iqbal Express

SIALKOT: A man was crushed to death under the wheels of the Allama Iqbal Express near Ucha Paharang, Tehsil Pasrur, on Sunday. Muhammad Sajid of Taqipur village was crossing the railway lines on a tractor-trolley when suddenly the train arrived and hit his vehicle. As a result, he died on the spot. The train’s engine was also damaged in the accident. Later, relatives of Sajid staged a demonstration and blocked the railway track for a couple of hours. Meanwhile, Muhammad Ali and his wife Zeba were on their way by a bike when Zeba’s shawl got entangled into the wheel of the bike and she fell on Circular Road near Tibba Haider Park. In the meantime, a truck of an international beverage company coming from behind crushed her under its wheels.

State land retrieved in Pirmahal

TOBA TEK SINGH: Pirmahal AC Hafiz Muhammad Najeeb along with police retrieved 3-Kanal and 17-Marla state land from a land grabber at Pirmahal on Sunday. The accused land grabber, Abid Gujjar, had constructed a house and a school on the state land. The AC demolished the illegal constructions and retrieved the state land. Official source told the accused had occupied the state land worth millions of rupees and was not vacating it despite repeated notices.

Eight arrested for doing wheelie

LAHORE: The Muslim Town police arrested eight youngsters for doing wheelie on Sunday. Six cases were registered against them and their vehicles were seized. They were identified as Umar Abbas, Alyas, Sadiq, Zaigham Hassan, Muhammad Hamza, Saad, Atif and Shahzad.

JI candidate will win Karachi by-polls, says Baloch

BHAKKAR: The culture of extortion and dumping of bodies in different parts of Karachi would be buried on April 23 with the winning of the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate in NA-246 by-polls, said JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch here on Sunday. Talking to the media on his way from Dera Ismail Khan to Lahore by road, Baloch said the JI had been serving the people of Karachi for the last 30 years and hoped that the JI candidate would win the NA-246 by-elections. He explained in detail the circumstances in Karachi and people’s sufferings due to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement policies. He said the time had arrived that the culture of fear was eliminated in the business hub of Pakistan.

Wheat procurement begins in four
districts of Dera Ghazi Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN: All the arrangements have been finalised for procurement of wheat in the four districts of Dera Ghazi Khan division with 15 per cent increase in the target as compared to the last year. This was stated by Food Deputy Director Shabbir Ahmad Alvi in a statement here on Sunday. He said that 474,000 metric tonnes of wheat would be procured from April 25 while the gunny bags would be issued to farmers from today. He said that 44 procurement centres had been established to facilitate the growers while the procurement committees comprising the farmers and public representatives had also been set up. He said that there would be no role of the middlemen in the procurement and the wheat would be directly purchased from farmers.

Horse Riding School established in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: Police have established a Horse Riding School near the Sargodha Road police station where citizens and professionals will be trained in horse riding. It was stated by CPO Dr Sohail Habib Tajik while inaugurating the Horse Riding School here on Saturday. The CPO said that the school was established to promote horse riding culture. He told those desirous of getting horse riding training will have to become the members of the school. They could apply for membership on the prescribed form while relevant information could be obtained from Sargodha Road police station, he said. The school membership has been divided in three categories. A Board of Governors (BoGs) comprising top industrialists and business tycoons had been constituted to run and maintain the horse riding school. The CPO said that the main objective for establishing the school was to inculcate keenness of horse riding among the citizens, especially among the youth of the city.

Five cops booked for stealing maize bags

PAKPATTAN: On the order of a court, the police on Saturday booked a traffic police inspector and four other cops for stealing 300 maize bags worth Rs570,000. Umar Rasheed of Qaboola and Muhammad Ahmad were carrying 300 maize bags on a tractor-trolley when accused traffic police inspector Rao Dilshad and other cops stopped the vehicle to check documents at the Gola Chowk. The cops took the tractor-trolley to the Qaboola police station. Umar went to the Excise office and cleared his documents. Later, when Rasheed went to the police station to get his maize-loaded vehicle released, the police gave him only the tractor-trolley without the maize bags.

Hospital staff accused of swapping

GUJRANWALA: A woman and her relatives staged a demonstration against a private hospital for allegedly swapping her newborn son with a dead girl. They chanted slogans against the hospital administration. Talking to newsmen, Nazia of Haideri Road said that she gave birth to a baby boy at a private hospital. On Friday night, her newborn son fell ill and she took her to another private hospital where the hospital administration allegedly swapped her newborn son with a dead girl. Later, the family filed a petition in a court, which ordered the DNA test of the dead girl. The test was being conducted at the DHQ Hospital till the filing of the report.

Truck driver, family threaten suicide

MULTAN: A truck driver with his family staged a demonstration against the Pakistan Railways in front of the railways divisional headquarters here on Saturday. The truck driver, Rana Saleem, his wife and six children were chanting slogans against the Pakistan Railways. Talking to newsmen, Rana Saleem said that he was crossing Pir Mukhtar Shah level crossing on Friday when a trench suddenly appeared in a road and his truck stuck there. In the meantime, a train hit his truck, smashing it into pieces. He alleged that the trench appeared due to the use of substandard material by the railway contractor. He said that the truck was the only source of income for him. He demanded the railways minister provide him compensation or he with his family would commit suicide. He also demanded the minister quash a case against him. Meanwhile, the Railways Police said that a case has been registered against the truck driver on the complaint of the station master.

Afghan national held in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: The CIA arrested an Afghan national from Chak 189, Rasoolpur. According to the CIA, Sikandar Khan had been living there for the last many years after obtaining a fake CNIC from the Nadra. During the preliminary investigation, the accused Sikandar said that he allegedly paid Rs35,000 to Khurrianwala Union Council No-2 Secretary Muhammad Imran and obtained a fake birth certificate, mentioning his name as Muhammad Shoaib and the names of his father and mother as Muhammad Arif and Siddiqa Bibi. Later, on the basis of the fake birth certificate, he managed to secure a CNIC from the Nadra.

Fake Pir rapes woman

OKARA: A woman has allegedly been raped by a fake Pir here. Waryam of Shamsabad (Depalpur), his wife Naheed Bibi, mother Karim Bibi and brother Shaaban came to Baba Abbas Janiwala at Chak 34/4L. The Pir reportedly ordered Naheed Bibi to sit in the room and asked the other family members to stay out until he called them back. The family later said that when the woman was alone in the room, the Pir allegedly raped her. The woman raised an alarm on which the accused fled. Police have registered a case.

Murder convict to be hanged on 23rd

JAUHARABAD: Khushab District & Sessions Judge Sajjad Ahmad on Saturday issued black warrants for murder convict Gul Muhammad who will be hanged on April 23. The convict is in the District Jail Sargodha and was charged of killing five-year-old Shahbaz over a family dispute and throwing the body into the River Jhelum in 1999.

Man killed, two hurt in accident

NANKANA SAHIB: A man was killed while two others sustained injuries in an accident near Jalal Nau village on Sunday. Sarfraz and his two friends were on their way on a motorcycle when a speeding car hit them. As a result, Sarfraz was killed on the spot while his two friends sustained injuries.
