LAHORE: Former Punjab Governor and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Mohammad Sarwar has said the PTI will clean sweep across Punjab in the upcoming local bodies’ polls.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Sarwar said the PTI was the only political party in the country that enjoys the support of the masses due to its ideology and fair play in national politics. He claimed the PML-N was never serious in holding local bodies’ elections in the country and credited the Supreme Court for passing orders to hold local government elections.
“The local government system will strengthen the country and install true democracy. Local bodies can only be implemented by devolution of power to complete a democratic system,” he maintained. The former governor also criticised the policies of the PML-N government, saying that its policies had aggravated the miseries of the general masses. He said the PTI pleaded the case of the people in the court and to the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding local government elections and finally succeeded in ensuring rights of the people.
He also asserted the PTI would keep an eye on the task of delimitations and preparation of electoral lists for the local body polls and would not allow the government to rig the elections.
