ISLAMABAD: The sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms (PCER) Thursday decided to change the procedure for scrutiny of the assets of parliamentarians.
A meeting of PCER sub-committee was held under the chairmanship of Zahid Hamid.In the meeting, it was agreed that the existing procedure for scrutiny of the assets of parliamentarian would be replaced with a new one.
The sub-committee also proposed to double the election expenses for the candidates of National Assembly and provincial assemblies in the elections.It also suggested action against the Returning Officer (RO) if the election record was found tampered. According to sources, it was also decided in the meeting that protection of the election record would be responsibility of the ROs. The Election Commission of Pakistan will brief the committee in its next meeting on matters relating to right to vote for Overseas Pakistanis, biometric system and electronic voting.
