KARACHI: Presenting his analysis in ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath,’ Shahzeb Khanzada said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was appearing worried more than normal regarding the Senate elections, which was apparent from the statements of Imran Khan, who had openly said that he would dissolve Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial assembly if a single member of the PTI voted contrary to the party line. He warned that such member would be sent behind the bars.
Imran Khan also announced that none of the MPAs of the KP Assembly would vote for a candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).On the other hand, there are reports that former Punjab governor Chaudhry Sarwar is busy canvassing and collecting votes for the PPP candidate Nadeem Afzal Chann.
In his analysis Shahzeb Khanzada said there had always been irregularities in the posting of high officials of Police in Sindh. He pointed out that 168 Sub Inspectors (SIs) of Sindh Police are awaiting and deserve posting as Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) but it is most probable that many of them would be deprived of their due right, as it has been decided that 132 of these 168 posts would be filled in on the basis of tests taken by the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).
The officers to be affected have obtained stay order from the court against this decision of the Services Tribunal. This is not for the first time that such appointments had been made in this manner when such wrongdoing had started by recruiting 18 DSPs. It was mentioned in appointment letters issued to them that they had been posted on ad hoc basis for a period of six months. And that they would have to go through the test of the SPSC. None of those ad hoc DSPs appeared in the SPSC test and they are still posted on important posts of Sindh Police.
Khanzada pointed out that five more persons in 1991, and 45 were appointed from 1994 to 1998.There isn’t good news regarding obeying the Supreme Court orders to the government for holding local government (LG) elections. However, there appears a possibility of holding the LG elections after six years as the SC has issued orders to hold these polls in Sindh and Punjab in September.
Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Sirajul Haq said that the members of the assemblies should exercise the right of their vote according to their conscience and merit of a candidate. He said it was the responsibility of the members of the assemblies to discourage and defeat those who were willing to become Senators using money. The filthy game of horse-trading should now come to an end. He said members of the assemblies could vote against the policy of the party, therefore, members of the assemblies of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamhoori Ittehad had been summoned for briefing and were advised to properly use their votes. All assumptions about them would prove wrong and the KP Assembly members would not bring bad name to the province again.
Sirajul Haq said irregularities were going on in Sindh and Balochistan assemblies but eyes were focused on the KP Assembly. He expressed the hope that KP voters would make proper use of their votes.
He pointed out that some parties had only five or six members in the provincial assembly but had nominated three candidates for the Senate, while independent candidates were also in the running. In such circumstances the people are right to believe that there would be horse-trading in the elections.
Sirajul Haq said it was surprising that the Election Commission had not devised any transparent system so far and had not taken any measures to end the notorious horse-trading.
