LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Q senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that gold reserves in Chiniot are another big bluff like Nandipur power project, 40 MPAs were bought over in 2008, rulers who broke own record of horse-trading were now afraid of their own members due to their performance and defacing the Constitution for their personal interests.
Almighty Allah will punish those who shed the bloodshed of the innocents in Model Town, Lahore and elsewhere and making false promises with the people, anti-farmer government has turned the prosperous farmers of our tenure into borrowers.
He stated this while addressing a big gathering on death anniversary of former chief minister of Punjab Sardar Arif Nakai at Wan Adhan in the Pattoki area Sunday. Son of former chief minister, Sardar Talib Nakai also addressed the gathering.
Pervaiz Elahi said it was clearly written in Article 226 of the Constitution that election to the Senate would be held through secret voting, likewise secret voting was also held in the election to the national and provincial assemblies, why the rulers were defacing the Constitution for accomplishing their own desires. Pervaiz Elahi said PML-N leaders did not consider anything superior to their personal interests; in 2008 election, they had bought our 40 MPAs, out of 85 through various tactics, was that not horse-trading, he questioned.
The rulers were afraid of Senate election because they had given no time to their party MPAs who were fed up with their attitude, when they did not give time to the ministers then what attention they would pay to the common man, their intention was not good, he added.
Pervaiz Elahi said we were in contact with PPP regarding the Constitutional Amendment for the Senate elections; in the last election N-League members had themselves voted for Kamil Ali Agha, PML was contesting Senate election in Punjab along with Peoples Party and PPP’s Nadeem Afzal was our joint candidate. He said Shahbaz Sharif in his speech in Chiniot had stated that when on the Day of Judgment he would appear before Almighty Allah he would tell that he had left behind the river of gold and also levelled the allegation that our government had looted this treasure.
Quoting from the record, Pervaiz Elahi said that in 1988, Nawaz Sharif as the chief minister had ordered investigation of reserves in Chiniot, afterwards Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif had come to power three times but they did not work on this.
He (Pervaiz Elahi) got the file out of dump during his tenure and got samples at a cost of Rs40 million and sent these to Pakistan Steel Mill laboratory, report received said that the iron ore was not as per the required standard and the reserves were useless for us, there was no mention of gold in that report, they had put gold in it afterwards, he had left the charge as the Chief Minister in November 2007, as such their second allegation in the context of Arshad Waheed and Company was wrong, when Justice Ejaz Nisar had become the caretaker Chief Minister, Pakistanis residing in the USA had offered to invest Rs240 million on this project and this summary was approved during period of Chief Minister Ejaz Nisar, after one month Shahbaz Sharif had come, then how the treasure was looted as the land was not transferred to the company till then, the company had filed a case, what Shahbaz Sharif had done in seven years from 2008 to 2015, till now Rs1.5 billion had been dumped in Chiniot, now they had brought in Dr Samar Mubarakmand, who had tried his level that German experts should say that there were gold, copper and iron ore reserves but German company refused to oblige till the report had come.
His was the bluff like the two brothers had played about Nandipur power project, they had inaugurated it but the people were asking as to where was electricity?, they were telling lie to the nation, Punjab was now under debt of Rs8 billion, he said, adding that people were prosperous during our tenure, everything was in abundance, ‘we challenge that come and have an open debate’, Pervaiz Elahi concluded.
