KOHAT: The police arrested 83 suspected persons, including five Afghan nationals, during a search operation in the district, official sources said on Wednesday.The sources said that the police launched a search operation in Ghulam Banda, Sheikhan village and Bazidkhel. They arrested 83 suspected persons, including five Afghan nationals.
Cases were registered against the Afghan nationals under the 14-Foreignners’ Act. The police also recovered arms and ammunition during the search operation. Cases were registered against 11 persons under the rent restriction ordinance. Up to 18 educational institutions were issued directives to take proper security measures.The police also arrested 20 persons for pillion-riding.

7,460 kids immunised in FR Lakki Marwat

LAKKI MARWAT: About 7,460 children were administered polio drops during the third day of the anti-polio drive in the Frontier Region (FR) Lakki Marwat. Talking to The News here on Wednesday, Assistant Political Agent (APA) FR Lakki Marwat, Abdul Kabir Khan Mullagori said that the government had set a target of vaccinating 8,516 children in the remote areas in FR Lakki Marwat. He said that the workers, including employees of political administration and health department, continued three days anti-polio vaccination drive. “The drive will be concluded today,” the official said, adding that no refusal case reported during the campaign. Agency Surgeon Dr Arif Wazir was also monitoring vaccination campaign. The APA said that security cover had been given to the anti-polio campaigners.

Two brothers, sister killed in Jhang van fire

JHANG: Two brothers and their sister were killed while their parents received burns when a van caught fire on the Jhang-Layyah Road near Rashidpur on Tuesday night. The family was returning from Jhang to Layyah after attending a marriage ceremony when their van suddenly caught fire. As a result, a 13-year-old girl and her brothers were burnt alive while their parents received serious burns. The injured people were shifted to a hospital at Garh Maharaja. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained. Police are investigating.

Woman burns husband alive for ‘honour’

OKARA: A woman burnt her husband alive for ‘honour’ in Kot Jan Muhammad on Wednesday. Mushtaq Ahmad and his wife Nasreen Bibi had doubts about each other’s character and used to quarrel over the issue. On the day of the incident, Nasreen Bibi allegedly burnt her husband alive by sprinkling petrol on him. Their three-year-old son Abdullah, who was sitting nearby, also received minor burns. Mushtaq was shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition. The Basirpur police have arrested accused Nasreen after registering a case against her.

Couple shot dead in Haripur

HARIPUR: A couple was shot dead over a property dispute in the limits of Kot Najibullah Police Station here on Wednesday, police sources said.The sources said Ali Arif and his wife, Tahzeem Bibi, were working at the farmhouse when Nadeem, Maqsood, Ghazanfar Shah and three women opened fire on them. The couple died on the spot and the accused managed to escape, the source added. The bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Haripur for autopsy and later handed over to relatives for burial.

Police foil Okara bus dacoity

OKARA: Seven dacoits reportedly of Kasur origin intercepted a Multan-bound bus and tried to take it towards Okara-Depalpur highway but quick action of police frustrated their bid. The dacoits intercepted the bus near village 14/1L. An encounter between police and dacoits continued for half an hour. The dacoits left the bus and ran away.

Ex-guard stages demo against MPA over threats
GUJRANWALA: A former guard along with his family staged a demonstration against ruling party MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema for allegedly threatening him. Muhammad Islam and his family demonstrated outside the CPO Office. Talking to newsmen, M Islam said that the MPA allegedly thrashed him and registered fake criminal cases against him when he refused to follow his orders. He said that the MPA also removed him from the job. He appealed to the CM and the CPO to save him from tyranny of the MPA. In the meantime, the Sadr SP held talks with the protesters and assured them of justice.
