LALAMUSA: Over 100 skeletons of donkeys were recovered from bushes near Kulewal Syedan Village on Saturday. After getting information, the Kharian assistant commissioner reached there and directed the TMA sanitation staff to remove and dump them in Bhimber area immediately. Later, the skeletons were dumped in a ditch with the help of an excavator and a tractor-trolley.
When contacted, DSP Shahid Nawaz Warraich disclosed that the accused belonged to Gujranwala and sold a skin of a donkey at Rs 10,000 to a company in Kasur, which smuggled them to China at high rates because of its demand there. He, however, denied the sale of donkey meat. Meanwhile, the sale of meat has reduced to a large extent after the recovery of donkeys’ skeletons. Citizens told The News that there was no slaughterhouse in the town and the veterinary officer could not visit different places. They demanded immediate establishment of a slaughterhouse in the town for which the land had already been purchased near Bhimber.
