Anti-polio drive begins in Hazara

MANSEHRA: The three-day polio drive has been started in selected union councils of Mansehra and Battagram districts amid tight security on Monday. In Mansehra district, the ongoing polio drive was limited to only 28 union councils out of 59 union councils of the district. Tariq Hussain, an official, told reporters that around 150,000 children of five and below would be administered polio vaccine. He said that remaining union councils of the district would be covered during the next polio round to be started shortly.
He said that besides 28 union councils of the district, three Afghan refugee camps were also being covered in the ongoing drive. In Battagram, the polio drive is started in 12 union councils out 20 union councils of district. Deputy commissioner, Battagram, Zariful Mani and district police office Jehanzeb Khan Bangash visited various areas in the district to monitor the anti-polio drive.
Meanwhile, district health officer Muhtaq Tanoli told reporters in Haripur that at least 1, 81047 will be vaccinated during the three-day anti-polio campaign. He said that the district has been divided into various zones to accomplish the target.
