Govt asked to launch schemes in tribal districts
PESHAWAR: Jirga Pakistan, a non-governmental organisation, has asked the government to launch uplift schemes in the tribal districts after their merger into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, the president of Jirga Pakistan, Abid Afridi, suggested that all the stakeholders should be on one page for the solution to problems and an end to the uncertainty.
Flanked by the convener Abdul Basit and Dr Riaz, he said that people of former Fata region were being deprived of their basic human rights and necessities.
Abid Afridi said the rulers had made a commitment to the people of the areas but after the merger of tribal areas into KP, all promises went into cold storage.
He said that the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) has become an organised force and some of its demands were constitutional and legal.
Abid Afridi said the government was ready to hold negotiations with the representatives of Pashtun Tahafuz Movement and expressed willingness to accept their demands and resolve the issues. But, he deplored that the government was not serious about ending the ongoing injustices with the dwellers of tribal districts.
