ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary board of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz while opting to introduce a new face in Islamabad has decided to field Barrister Zafarullah Khan, a former officer of the District Management Group (DMG), as its candidate from NA-48 Islamabad for the upcoming by-elections.


The PML-N sources told The News that the parliamentary board which met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair at Prime Minister House on Tuesday rejected ex-MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan who was defeated by margin of over 20,000 votes as party candidate from NA-48 Islamabad.


The party sources said that the PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haque has been asked to create consensus on candidature of Barrister Zafarullah Khan while Anjum Aqeel Khan would be directed to run his campaign.The PML-N sources said the parliamentary board had also decided to retain the ticket holders of May 11 elections for the by-elections on vacant seats provided no case against them.


Barrister Zafarullah Khan, who also heads party’s legal wing, also played a key role in preparing draft of the 18th Amendment from the PML-N side. Zafarullah Khan is a former officer of the DMG of the Civil Service of Pakistan where he served for 15 years as Assistant Commissioner and SDM, Additional Deputy Commissioner, DC and DM, Deputy Secretary, and Additional Secretary in various provincial departments in Sindh and Punjab.
