PESHAWAR: Reiterating his demand for holding the next general elections on time, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief Aftab Sherpao Saturday said conducting the polls in a transparent manner was the only solution to the prevailing problems.

Speaking at a convention of the Watan Pal Lawyers’ Forum here, he said, “We will not accept any pretext to delay or postpone the polls.”

The convention was organised in connection with the death anniversary of Shaheed Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao. QWP Secretary General Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, Watan Pal Lawyers’ Forum provincial President Bilal Ahmad Durrani, General Secretary Saadullah Jandoli and others also spoke on the occasion. Asking the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take notice of the pre-polls rigging, he said that backdated recruitment was being made in the government departments, which was a sheer violation of the ECP instructions.

Aftab Sherpao called upon all the political parties to get united and seek a viable solution to the issue of militancy in order to restore peace on the land of the Pakhtuns. “All the political parties need to make efforts to band together the Pakhtuns at one platform and remove the prevailing sense of deprivation among them,” he suggested.
