Unplanned underpass a nuisance for motorists

From Our Correspondent

FAISALABAD: The Îunplanned constructionâ of an underpass at Abdullahpur has created problems for vehicle owners as no alternate passage has been provided to them to reach their destinations.

Motorists have to move at a snailâs pace and it took at least an hour to reach Municipal College Chowk after crossing Abdullahpur Bridge during the rush hours. A small number of traffic wardens posted at Abdullahpur Chowk and Jhal Khanooana Chowk on Satiana Road are incapable to streamline the traffic, which remained messy almost round the clock.

Meanwhile, the parking of vehicles on Satiana Road from Chowk Jhal Khanooana to Saleemi Chowk, especially in front of jeweller shops, creates a big traffic mess. A flyover from Faisalabad Railway Station to Kohinoor Chowk was proposed, but the project was ignored due to opposition from the residents of the area and due to litigation. Later, the City District Government Faisalabad proposed the construction of three underpasses at Abdullahpur Chowk and the government allocated huge funds for the purpose, but the projects were again dropped. Presently an underpass is being constructed at Chowk Abdullahpur, which would cost five-time expenditures as compared to the three underpasses.
