ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Railways has outsourced three trains, and will soon outsource some more, to control losses and improve its performance.

The Shalimar, Rohi and the Hazara express trains have been outsourced and a new Business Express was launched as a joint venture with the private sector to facilitate passengers. According to a Pakistan Railways spokesperson here on Monday, the PR had been making efforts to recover its dues from other departments and companies.

It introduced new signaling system on the network to minimize detentions and saving in fuel expenditure. The other step was reaching out to the private sector to utilize the idle capacity in the Railways system through a Track Access Policy. The strategy was to repair and maintain the existing locomotives as well as procurement of new ones for which the department was seeking funds from the government.
