ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked all the officers and staff to reveal in one week if they or their spouses hold dual nationality, sources said on Monday. The officers and staff have been warned of disciplinary action against those who fail to comply with the orders.
“We are making efforts to gather this information to reply to the questions asked by parliamentarians,” said a senior official of the FBR. “We have directed all the departments concerned to provide this information by July 20, failing which disciplinary action will be initiated against them,” he said.
According to the official, the FBR has attempted to get this information several times but the officers concerned did not respond to the directives. To ensure compliance, this time the FBR has warned the officers of dire consequences in accordance with the government service rules. Official communication to the effect has been sent to all the chief commissioners, collectorates, director generals, collectors of Customs and officers and staff of the FBR. The move comes in the wake of an intense debate about dual nationality of the parliamentarians.
