Youth ‘tortured to death’ by Chakwal police

From Our Correspondent

CHAKWAL: A youth was allegedly tortured to death and later hanged by the police at Udharwal village.

The victim family told The News that the police had raided their house to arrest Mehrban, but arrested his brother Farhan when they did not find the former. They alleged that the police had tortured to death Farhan and later hanged him with a tree.

DPO Kashif Mushtaq Kanju reached the spot and assured that exemplary punishment would awarded to the policemen if they found guilty. He said that he had ordered Talagang DSP Raja Javed Anwar to hold an inquiry into the matter. He said that action would be taken after the inquiry. However, Sadr SHO Ch Asher Ali denied the allegations. He said that the police had not arrested Farhan. He added that Farhan was abnormal and had committed suicide by hanging himself.
