Pemra, cable operators hold meeting

Analog TV to be converted into digital cable TV network

KARACHI: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) officials comprising its executive member, RGM Sindh and DGM (Operation) held a meeting with cable operators of Karachi at Regional Office here on Wednesday, says a press release.
The meeting was attended by Khalid Arain of S N CTV Operator, Mr Akhlaq of M/s New Digi 1, Gufran Mujtaba of M/s KCS, Imran Abidi of M/s Tahir CTV, Abidi of M/s Home Vision, Faisal of M/s KCS, Nasir Bukhari of M/s Paramount, Faheem of M/s Global, Asim Ali of M/s Lucky Comm, Muhammad Hussain of M/s Tracks, Maqsood of M/s Star CTV, Muhammad Mairaj of M/S M.S 15, Mr Abid of M/s Delta CTV, Wahid Bux Baloch of M/s Sharja CTV, Mr Yaqoob of M/s Ray Digital, Mr Faheem of M/s World Call, Mr Waseem of M/s Global, Amin Asif of M/s Ahsan, Saeed Shah of M/s Mehran Net and others.
Sindh Pemra Regional General Manager Muhammad Farooq in his welcome speech thanked all participants and briefed them about the Policy of Signal Provider Network (SPN) and Conversion of Analog Cable TV Networks to Digital Cable TV Networks.
Pemra Executive Member Kamaluddin Tipu further elaborated the Policy of Signal Provider Network (SPN) and Conversion of Analog Cable TV Networks into Digital Cable TV Networks. He reiterated that current management of the authority was trying to ensure a level playing field and a business-friendly environment so that all the segments of electronic media could flourish and subsequently contribute positively to the national growth.
Kamaluddin Tipu said that the cable TV operators of metropolitan cities should follow the Pemra directions regarding conversion of Analog Cable TV into Digital Cable TV Networks by December 31, 2015 which was approved by the authority as the deadline in pursuance to the recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for conversion of broadcast media to digital and instruction had been issued for strict compliance of the same.
Prior to formal conclusion, Kamaluddin Tipu offered the participants of the meeting to share their proposals in writing. The participants of the meeting thanked Pemra for arranging such meeting and they assured submission of proposals at the earliest.
