KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday said that there was a dictatorship in the country in the name of democracy, adding that a new history would be written in Karachi on December 5.
Speaking at a corner meeting at the Kakri Ground in Lyari, Imran said that he has arrived in the city to build a ‘Naya Karachi’ and added that saving the economic hub of Pakistan was the shared responsibility of all.
The PTI leader had arrived in the metropolis on Saturday night to campaign for the upcoming third and final phase of the local government (LG) polls in Sindh and Punjab. He said there was a “union” of the corrupt in the country as, according to him, they unite every time an action was taken against any such individual.
Imran Khan urged the masses not to vote for any party whose head’s wealth and properties were abroad.“Criminals and the Qabza mafia have taken control of the country and they have united in the name of saving democracy,” said the PTI chief.
“But they have not joined hands to save democracy but to save corruption,” he added. The PTI chairman, whose party is governing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, claimed that they would not have to run an election campaign for the next general elections in KP if the PTI continues to remain in power there.
Earlier, speaking at a similar gathering in Banaras Colony, he called on voters and supporters to end what he termed the monopoly of a single political party in the city.
“We have to create history in Karachi. There is monopoly in Karachi of a political party which takes turns in power over and over again. And you can see the condition of the people today,” he said.
“If these people remain in power, the condition of Karachi will also stay the same,” he said.Imran urged the residents of Karachi to come out and vote for the PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) in the local government elections in the city. The PTI and JI have reached an understanding to “root out their opponent” the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in the LG polls in Karachi, scheduled to be held on December 5.
