ISLAMABAD: The audit report regarding payment of circular debt of Rs480 billion has taken a constitutional turn as the Auditor General of Pakistan Rana Asad Amin made it clear that under the Constitution he was bound to present all the audit reports only to the President of Pakistan, who refers the reports to parliament.
The Auditor General took a constitutional position in response to the members of the Public Accounts Committee belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who wanted that the audit report on circular debt should be presented directly to the PAC.
However, the Auditor General said under the constitutional procedure, the report will be submitted to the president who will forward it to parliament, which can ultimately send it to the PAC. The Auditor General was of the opinion that constitutional procedure will not be violated under any circumstances.
On the insistence of the PAC members in the last meeting which was held on Tuesday, Auditor General Rana Asad Amin had stated that the raw copy of the audit report on the payment of Rs480 billion circular debt had already been sent to Chairman PAC Syed Khursheed Shah for “his eyes only” and now it was up to the PAC head to share it.
