ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Air Force FT-7PG aircraft while on a routine operational training mission crashed near Kundian, Mianwali, on Tuesday.
According to a PAF spokesman, one of the pilots Marium Mukhtiar embraced Shahadat while the other pilot of the aircraft ejected safely and has been rescued. He said no loss of civilian life and property has been reported on the ground.
“Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi and Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar were on a routine operational training mission when they encountered a serious in-flight emergency during the final stages of the mission,” the air force said.
Marium is the first female pilot of the Pakistan Air Force to be martyred while on duty.A board of inquiry has been ordered by the Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident.
The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, while expressing condolences with the bereaved family of the martyred pilot, Flying Officer Maryam Mukhtar, has paid rich tributes to her valour and sacrifice.“She was indeed a role model for women and pride of Pakistan,” the COAS in his condolence message said.
