ISLAMABAD: Senior Leader of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and former interior minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said that Pakistan was justified in complaining to the United States for its partial attitude towards Pakistan as the Washington supported New Delhi on its nuclear programme as it was evident in the joint declaration issued by India and the United States.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should have to present the confession of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Indian role in creating Bangladesh to international leaders but he failed to do so,” he said in an interview with Jang and The News.
He said that Taliban, Daesh and al-Qaeda were the foremost challenges to Pakistan and these challenges could be addressed and dealt with only by following the action plan against terrorism in real terms.
Senator Rehman Malik said that the PPP was not afraid of accountability but the way the PPP was being made target was not justified. “The tape scam exposed in the Supreme Court showing how Benazir Bhutto was made target and it was clear to everyone how the judges were directed to announce the decision,” he said and added that PPP leadership faced 12 years of so-called accountability and media trial. “It must also be ensured that the accountability should be made through judiciary and there should not be media trial of the party,” he added.
He said it was strange that the PPP trial was being carried out by the NAB and FIA while corruption of other parties was being probed by the Auditor General of Pakistan.
He said democracy only flourishes through the people and it is only the people who can run democracy but it should be judged what democracy was doing for the people. “If there is absence of political unity and presence of virus in democracy, it would be destructive for democracy. I am talking about clear indication of political divide in the country as we are facing different challenges but the nation is not on the same page,” he added.
Senator Rehman Malik said the democracy was the name of political patience and of moving forward. If the politicians did not stop pulling each other’s legs, democracy would pull itself.
He said that Pakistan was the only country where all the economic policies were dictated by the World Bank and IMF and if the economic policies were being formulated on the basis of getting loans, the lenders always dictated to ensure the safety of their investment. ”How could one come out from the debt web when one takes loans to return their previous loans? Though all the governments have their own stories of brining improvements in their economic situation but the facts and statistics give another picture,” he said.
Chairman Senate’s Committee on Interior Rehman Malik said currently Pakistan was involved in war against the mindset which promoted drugs and Kalashnikov culture. He said that Afghan intelligence agencies were not leaving any city of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa where they sponsored terrorists’ attacks.
He said the right way to end terrorism in the country was to implement the National Action Plan with sincerity. “Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan must strengthen hands of other ministries so that they can also actively contribute to the war against terrorism, “he said.
Senator Rehman Malik said Pakistan’s relations with India, Afghanistan and Iran might be more challengeable in the coming days and being a political and security expert he would say that the India-US joint declaration was against Pakistan.
He said that the joint declaration of the US and India at one hand asked Pakistan to do more while on the other, asked for ending the Haqqani network, which was in Afghanistan having full support of Afghan government and the United States.
He said there was mentioning of the Haqqani Network and Jaesh-e-Muhammad which indicated that India was hatching conspiracy to declare Pakistan as a terrorist state.
Senator Rehman Malik said Indo-US joint statement which must show American equal treatment policy but preferential treatment was given to India by allowing it heavy nuclear export. “Pakistan has a right to lodge a complaint with US President Barack Obama as Pakistan sacrificed 60,000 people in war against terrorism and this war fought for peace of the world but those for whom we are fighting this war want to put Pakistan in the terrorist list instead of acknowledging it as a victim of terrorism.”
On energy crisis, he said that the loadshedding had now turned into headache for the people of Pakistan but the rulers were claiming that they had controlled it.
He said if PPP had not adopted the reconciliation policy and Zardari had not gone to Nawaz sharif House, democracy would have been derailed. “We will not allow derailing democracy as the seed of democracy was sown by Benazir Bhutto Shaheed,” he added.
On the civil-military relations, Senator Rehman Malik said, “Parliament, judiciary, Army and media are main pillars of the state but it is only Parliament that gives directions to the government. The PPP government in its five-year tenure has excellent relations with the Army and even today all the political parties favoured establishment of military courts with consensus,” he added.
He said that successes of the Aarb-e-Azb were due to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif who did a remarkable job by launching operation against terrorists in Fata and the whole nations was proud of him.
He said that Karachi operation was a continued process which was started in 1992 by Nawaz Sharif government and the PPP continued it to clean different mafias from the metropolitan city by taking strict actions.
He said Karachi operation was a political decision and the Rangers and police joined hands to act against criminals.
He said the RAW was involved in terrorist activities in Afghanistan as India wanted to create rift between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He said in the coming days he would expose Indian Prime Minister Modi and his foreign minister who were speaking against Pakistan. “I will question Indian CBI about the inquiry report in which Indian foreign minister was found guilty of supporting one of the fugitives,” he added.
He said there were evidence of Indian involvement in Balochistan and these evidence should be handed over to Indian home minister and even in the Interpol conference he had exposed India. “I have been saying for the last six months that Indian prime minister was a terrorist and the world should see the terrorist as a terrorist,” he added.
