Red Crescent Pakistan chapter started in UK

LONDON: A well-known social activist and British Pakistani philanthropist has been appointed as the Chairman of Managing committee UK & Europe for Red Crescent Pakistan.
The decision to appoint Faisal Butt in this position was made here by Chairman of Red Crescent Pakistan Dr Saeed Elahi who is here these days to announce the Red Crescent’s UK body and to take part in meetings with delegations from different countries assembled in London for the Red Crescent meetings.
A ceremony was held in Pakistan High Commission with was attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Syed Ibn-e-Abbas, Dr Saeed Elahi, diplomats from other countries and Pakistani community members.
Dr Elahi also appointed Mr Ali Sajjad as the chairman advisory committee UK & Europe. Mr Ali is a chartered accountant by profession and runs his own accountancy firm. He has worked with the Pakistani government on different projects in London and is also a community leader based in East London.
Faisal Butt is a London based businessman who has various business interests and has worked with different renowned UK based charities and is also a philanthropist who has helped & supported various people in need. Faisal Butt has sponsored treatment of many needy and sick people in Pakistan over many years.
Dr Saeed Elahi said that he had decided to launch Pakistan Red Crescent in UK amongst Pakistanis to create awareness about the tremendously good work the organisation is doing in Pakistan to alleviate the sufferings of poor people. He said that the Red Crescent’s work was spread across Pakistan and everyday thousands of people were benefiting from the services provided by the Red Cross.
He said he felt the need to launch Pakistan Red Crescent in UK to involve the diaspora communities who can become partners with the PRC to help Pakistan’s poor people.
Faisal Butt welcomed his appointment and said that he will hold meetings with Pakistanis in Britain and convince them to work in Pakistan with help from the Red Crescent. He said that Pakistan faces enormous issues related to poverty, natural and man-made disasters. He said that overseas Pakistanis have always gone out of their way to help Pakistan but it’s important they connect with the right organisations to deliver aid and assistance. He said that the Red Cross has a sterling record of delivering genuinely to the beneficiaries without any corruption. He said that aims and principles of the Red Cross are noble and those working for it strictly adhere to the founding principles of one of the oldest charitable organisations of the world.
