LAHORE: The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Manzoor Ahmad Malik, has said judges not performing their duties will be held accountable and they will not remain part of the judicial system.
He said judges should dispense justice without any fear as Allah Almighty would protect them. He said he was aware of the fact that justice was delayed but the superior judiciary was trying its best to improve the justice system in the country and it had achieved success to some extent in this regard.
He was addressing the district and sessions judges, senior additional district and sessions judges and senior civil judges from across Punjab at the Judicial Academy here on Sunday. He said the district judiciary plays a crucial role in dispensation of justice and to build the image of the judiciary. He said it hurts him a lot that the judicial officers keep sitting in their chambers for long hours and sit in courts for little time. He said punctuality and good dressing should be the known qualities of judges.
The LHC CJ asked the judicial officers to increase vigilance so that people’s complaints could be addressed at large. He said the superior judiciary and improved check and balance system would compound judges’ accountability. He asked the judges to take measures for restoring people’s confidence in the judiciary.
The LHC CJ said till 2012, all pending cases in 25 districts of Punjab had been disposed of. He said the bar was part and parcel of the judiciary and he still considered himself a lawyer even today.
He said he took personal interest in the murder case of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi Tahir Khan Niazi and now the killers were in police custody. He promised taking all steps for the well-being of judicial officers.
