ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan is asking for the resignation of the same Nadra chairman who was being praised by PTI in the recent past and because of whose honest verification report, PTI succeeded in getting a favourable decision against Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from the Election Tribunal.
The Election Tribunal nullified the election of NA-122 making base the verification report of Nadra and discussed each aspect of the report in detail thus declaring the election null and void. However, Election Tribunal Judge Kazim Malik dismissed Chairman Nadra’s supplementary report regarding possibilities of errors in writing the CNICs by election staff but at the same time he relied on the report. The judge did not accept report of a commission made by himself and gave preference to honest report by chairman Nadra regarding votes verification.
PTI spokesperson Dr Shireen Mazari when contacted for PTI’s version said, “Because the tribunal report stated that chairman Nadra tried to cover up the massive irregularities/lapses found in the Nadra report by this absurd theory of “statistical expectation” which the Judge said was based on conjecture and “whimsical” and Nadra had to give a report based on data and facts not assumptions! He basically tried to destroy his own report”.
Chairman PTI Imran Khan while addressing a press conference after the verdict of Na-122 said that the Nadra chairman, through his report, tried to protect the PML-N candidate and that PTI has passed a resolution in its meeting and that the NADRA chairman should tender his resignation. Imran Khan said following the election tribunal’s verdict on NA-122, ECP officials and the Nadra chairman have lost the legal, moral and ethical grounds to hold their posts.
It is worth mentioning here that the chairman PTI had visited Nadra headquarters twice and had praised Chairman Nadra Usman Mubeen saying that he trusts Usman Mubeen regarding votes’ verification of NA-122. Well-placed sources disclosed that when the government was about to appoint new chairman Nadra, input from PTI was also taken on board and it was agreed upon by the government and the PTI to appoint Usman Mubeen as chairman Nadra as PTI had some reservation upon the name of Umar Saif.
The important verdict of NA-122 that has boosted the morale of PTI only because of Usman Mubeen who did not compromise on the verification report prepared by Nadra in Na-122 which ultimately resulted in a decision in favour of PTI. From ballots with incorrect CNICs to unreadable and missing digits CNIC numbers written on ballots to the difference in total of rejected votes, and from missing ballot papers to use of magnetic ink, it was all Nadra affair which turned the tables on Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in favour of PTI but the PTI chief asked resignation of Chairman Nadra.
