SUKKUR: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Saturday that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had been opposing the de-seating of PTI lawmakers for the sake of democracy which should be triumphant in the country.
While talking to media persons here after visiting the flood-hit areas, he said that his party would oppose every move to de-seat PTI members from the National Assembly.
While lending his support to traders, who are observing a shutter-down strike across the country, Shah said that their demand was just and the government should withdraw the withholding tax.
“The government should add new taxpayers to the net instead of taking anti-business steps,” he said. While taking about the flood-hit areas, Shah said that the residents had been forewarned but they did not leave their houses until flood water entered their abodes. “Necessary food items are being provided to the flood-affected people in relief camps,” he said adding that the flood was not that severe that they sought foreign aid. The opposition leader said that the prime minister should visit flood-hit areas in Sindh to assess the damages. Answering a question, he said that there was no harm if local government polls were postponed for two or three months, as the province was experiencing the flood situation.
