KARACHI: Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Friday said that Karachi had once again become a peaceful city of lights with economic and social activities, and normalcy in every walk of life.
“Karachi’s joys, pleasures and peace have been restored after a long period. The Karachiites celebrated this Eid-ul-Fitr with peace of mind and full jubilation. Markets and shopping centres witnessed a large number of shoppers every day till midnight during the Ramazan-ul-Mubarak,” the minister said, while talking to the media outside the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry after attending a meeting of the Judicial Commission.
The minister said that now hustle and bustle of Karachi would continue forever. Likewise, he added, the entire country would be made peaceful where everybody would live a safe and dignified life and contribute towards the nation’s prosperity and development.
Not only educational institutions but worship places would also be safe, he added. He praised the role of the military and civil law-enforcing agencies in the fight against terrorism as well as their sacrifices for peace in the country.
He said that today the situation in the country was different. Instead of terror attacks, the armed forces were hunting the armed forces were hunting the terrorists leaving little space for them to hide, he added. The federal and provincial governments, and the public, he said, stood behind the armed forces.
He appealed to the people to extend maximum support and cooperation to the law-enforcing agencies for making the country free from terrorism, extremism and other crimes.Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he remarked, was committed to make Pakistan a terrorism-free and prosperous country.
To a question, the minister said that on the prime minister’s directives, a government team comprising senior politicians was persuading the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jammiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to withdraw their motions in the National Assembly for de-seating of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members for their long absence from the House.
The minister was hopeful that the two parties would honour the spirit of other main political parties and allow the PTI members to play their parliamentary role. However, he reminded the PTI about the agreement signed by them with the government while demanding formation of the Judicial Commission.
When his attention was drawn towards operation against criminals in Sindh, he expressed his satisfaction over the provincial government’s role. The minister condemned the alleged manhandling of senior journalist Faheem Siddiqui and asked the Sindh government to look into the matter and to bring the culprits to book.
