ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has held parliament responsible for electoral indiscipline and irregularities and said that prior to the elections 2013, electoral weaknesses could have been averted if parliament had removed irregularities in elections on the identification of the ECP.
A senior officer of the ECP said that the report of the Judicial Commission would be reviewed in an ECP meeting today (Friday). He said that it was clearly stated in the report of the Inquiry Commission that the ECP had conducted transparent elections despite slackness and flaws.
He said that they could prove that they had pointed out and asked to remove those electoral weaknesses and irregularities, mentioned in the report of the Judicial Commission, in their letter three months before the holding of 2013 elections but parliament did not take it seriously.
The senior officer said that weaknesses and irregularities were done in every election but it was to be noted whether an organised rigging was done or the public mandate was stolen. The Judicial Commission at once rejected such kind of allegations. The senior officer of ECP said that there was a need to work forthwith on electoral reforms on the recommendations of the Judicial Commission.
