DUBAI: The scope of the inquiry into Axact is expected to be extended to the Middle East as the Pakistani authorities may contact the UAE about the Dubai office of Axact in the coming 48 hours.
It is reported that an investigation into the offices of the Axact LLC in the Dubai Free Zone, the parent company of Axact Pakistan, has been launched. Sources said information is being collected about the company that holds over 99 percent shares of Axact. Evidence of the alleged fake degrees of Axact in the Middle East is also likely to be collected.
The office of Pakistan’s so-called largest IT organisation comprises a 6-by-6 table, a black phone set and two chairs. Former officials of Axact have made some important revelations when contacted by Geo TV. They said higher authorities were informed of the Axact scam during the Musharraf era but investigations could not move forward due to some “unavoidable reasons”.
The government was informed of Axact activities in 2007-08 but an investigation was not initiated. Rather, Axact was given a contract to supply computers to a big institution in Pakistan. To avoid legal proceedings, Axact computerised the system of some big housing societies and prepared their websites free of charge.
To be safe from the law, Axact hired many law enforcers on inflated salaries. Legal experts say investigation should be launched against Axact and those who were reluctant to launch a probe against the company during the eras of Musharraf and Zardari.
