ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that it was the government’s responsibility to uphold and guard the integrity of the armed forces and defence and security institutions.
In a statement issued by the PM House, while terming Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain’s apology for using defamatory remarks against the national security institutions a good gesture, the prime minister advised that special care must be observed in matters concerning national interest.
Nawaz Sharif said that one should think twice before commenting on such sensitive matters.
Breaking his silence on Altaf’s remarks after a day, the prime minister issued a guarded but meaningful statement saying that such irresponsible statements not only tarnish the image of national institutions, but also hurt the sentiments of the general public.
The prime minister also issued a rejoinder to the media asking it to abide by the code of conduct set for them.
“The media houses should ensure that irresponsible statements made against the national interest are not broadcast at any cost in future.”
