Main accused in Imran Farooq murder case held in Karachi

Nisar says he will be presented before court today; expects major progress in MQM leader’s killing case

ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, said on Monday that the mystery surrounding the killing of Dr Imran Farooq had been unraveled as the main accused in the murder of the MQM leader had been arrested from Karachi.
Talking to media persons here on Monday at the Parliament House, the interior minister disclosed that Pakistan’s security agencies were monitoring the suspects and accomplices in the killing of Dr Imran Farooq for the last one year and the mastermind of Imran Farooq’s murder had been arrested from Azizabad, Karachi.
The minister revealed that the suspect facilitated two youths of Karachi, Kashif and Mohsin Ali, in their banking transactions, visa-related issues and provided logistical support to manage their landing in the UK.
Pakistan’s security agencies were in coordination with Scotland Yard to trace the killers of Pakistani citizen Dr Imran Farooq in the UK, said the interior minister.With the detention of the mastermind, the case will move speedily. The accused will be presented before the court today (Tuesday), said the minister.
For further investigations, a joint investigation team, including officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), would be constituted as officials of the FIA had played a major role in hunting down the main accused in Dr Imran Farooq’s murder.
The suspect had facilitated the accused in the Imran Farooq killing case on visa issues, banking transactions and logistical support and helped them in getting admissions to universities in the UK. These two youth were later found to be involved in the killing of Dr Imran Farooq in the UK.
