Probe into 2013 poll ‘rigging’

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday issued an ordinance for the constitution of a Judicial Commission to probe the alleged rigging in the 2013 general election.
The government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had signed the agreement for the constitution of the Judicial Commission last Wednesday.
The commission will submit its report within 45 days and will have the powers to engage the premier intelligence agencies in the investigation process.The seven-page agreement was signed by Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and Iqbal Zafar Jhagra from the government and Jehangir Tareen and Shah Mehmood Qureshi from the PTI, with the media acting as a witness.
According to the finance minister, all parliamentary parties were taken into confidence on the formation of the Judicial Commission.He said parliament will have no credibility if the commission proved rigging.
Talking to the media, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the request to improve the election procedures will lead to betterment and restore the public confidence in the electoral process.
The commission will comprise three Supreme Court judges. The PTI has long been saying that its return to the National Assembly depends upon the constitution of the Judicial Commission to investigate the rigging allegations.
