PTI wins LA-III Mirpur city Legislative Assembly seat

MIRPUR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry has won the by-election LA-III Mirpur city Legislative Assembly seat, defeating his nearest rival candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf, the joint candidate of PPP and PML-N, with a majority vote of 2,800, according to unofficial results.
The by-election on LA-III Mirpur city seat was held here on Sunday in a peaceful atmosphere. Counting was continuing when the last report came in. According to AJK Election Commission, the final result will be announced on March 30. The Mirpur city LA-III constituency comprises a total of 68,315 registered voters. It includes 36,253 male and 32,562 female voters.
The seat had fallen vacant after the former AJK prime minister and sitting Member of the AJK Legislative Assembly Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry resigned from the assembly seat, leaving the ruling PPP AJK’s fold and joined the Pakistan Tehreek- e-Insaf (PTI).
