ISLAMABAD: Leaders of seven religious parties including Tehrik Nafaz Fiqh-e-Jafariya (TNFJ), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslemin (MWM), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), JUP-Niazi Group and Pakistan Sunni Tehrik (PST), Wafaqul Madaris Al-Shia, Milli Yekjehti Council, have opposed sending Pakistan Army to Yemen, in support of Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) Pakistan Amir Hafiz Saeed Ahmad, Jamiat Ahle Hadees (JAH) and Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) have called upon the government of Pakistan to provide Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s legal government protection against the rebels. Also, Jamia Binoria chief Mufti Muhammad Naeem and Nizam-e-Mustafa Party chief Haji Muhammad Hanif have urged the government to take a cautious decision after taking the parliament into confidence on the issue.
Patron-in-Chief of Supreme Shia Ulema Board and chief of Tehrik Nafaz Fiqh-e-Jafariya Agha Syed Hamid Ali Moosvi has said the attack on Yemen is an American agenda and supporting it would be a stupidity.
According to a press statement, issued here Saturday, Moosvi regretted that the war-mongers have pushed the world to the brink of a Third World War just to sell their arms. He regretted that while making such an important decision, the parliament was totally ignored.
Moosvi said the Muslim states should show wisdom as there is no threat to Harmain Sharifain; neither any attack is being launched against Saudi Arabia nor against Iran. If ever there’s any danger to Harmain Sharifain, the entire Muslim Ummah would come out to defend it, he added. Moosvi said those who devour dollars and riyals should not add fuel to the American-ignited fire.
Giving his party’s reaction over the attack on Yemen, the Shia leader regretted that the Muslims were being killed like mosquitoes and flies, and their blood was being sold out in the name of Islam. The game of declaring actions of American puppets as a war of Islam has become an old tactic, he added.
Agha Moosvi claimed that there was no sectarian conflict in any country including Yemen. Declaring the war of Iranian and Saudi Arabian interests and American detestable game is an enmity towards Islam. It is stupidity and a colonial agenda that needs to be thwarted, he added.
The Shia leader said the rulers and politicians have no interest is safeguarding the sanctity of the holy places and whatever they were doing was just to watch each other’s interests in their personal capacities.
He said Iran and Saudi Arabia should change their policies and for God’s sake they should not turn Muslim states into a battlefield for their own war.
Moosvi said the government damaged the image of Pakistan by supporting the attack on Yemen. The Pakistan Army is the army of Islam and no one could dare challenge it, he added. He regretted that the rulers were staining the army by committing mistakes.
He urged the government to send delegations to Saudi Arabia and Iran to resolve the issue and save the Muslim Ummah, instead of becoming a party to the war.
Moosvi said the government assertion of supporting war on Yemeni rebels was illogical. If the Saudi Arabia has supported Pakistan during its hard times, Iran has always stood by it practically. Iran was the first country to recognise Pakistan after its creation. It provided Pakistan petroleum products free of cost during its wars. During the 1971 war, the US only made hollow promises of sending its warship in support of Pakistan, but Iran provided it weaponry direly need at that time.
The Punjab chapters of MWM, SIC and JUP-Niazi Group meanwhile announced offering resistance to the government if it sent Pakistan Army to join Saudi Arabia-led coalition against Huthi rebels of Yemen.
Addressing a joint press conference Saturday, MWM Punjab General Secretary Abdul Khaliq Asadi, JUP Punjab leader Pir Usman Noori and SIC leader Rana Sharafat Ali, warned that sending Pakistan Army to fight Yemeni rebels under Saudi-led coalition would amount to pushing the country into fresh security crisis.
Also, Sunni Ittehad Council chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza said Pakistan should not become part of infighting in Yemen.
They alleged that joining Saudi coalition was personal decision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and not of the Pakistan Army. They said the prime minister was using Pakistan Army to pay back the favours Saudi Arabia had extended to him.
They also warned that crushing Huthi rebels would amount to strengthening al-Qaeda and ISIS against which Huthis were considered to be a counter force. They criticised Riyadh for intervening in internal affairs of Yemen on vague request of deposed president Hadi Mansoor, adding Riyadh had a legacy of worst human rights violations and he had no moral and legal justification to attack Huthis.
Other leaders present on the occasion included Iqbal Kamrani, Asad Abbas Naqvi, Dr Amjad Hussain Chishti, Abid Ali Bukhari, Dr Noorul Mustafa, Pir Ijaz Chishti, Asif Bukhari etc.
Pakistan Sunni Tehrik chief Sarwat Ijaz Qadri, addressing reporters at Gojra at the shrine of Pir Syed Shah Sawar Shah, opposed the government decision to send armed forces to Yemen, in support of Saudi Arabia.
He said Pakistan armed forces were not mercenary forces. Therefore, the rulers should keep Pakistani forces away from this war unless it becomes dangerous for international peace.
He supported Rangers operation in Karachi. He condemned the registration of cases against Sunni ulema and prayer leaders for holding Darood-o-Salam mahafil and demanded immediate withdrawal of cases. He announced that Sunni Tehrik would take part in local government elections all-over the country.
Wafaqul Madaris Al-Shia and Milli Yekjehti Council Vice President Allama Syed Niaz Hussain Naqvi expressed his concerns over Saudi Arabia-led armed attacks on Yemeni rebels.
JUD Pakistan Chief Hafiz Saeed Ahmad said a conspiracy was being hatched to besiege Saudi Arabia by raising rebel forces in Yemen. He said all Muslim states should unite to foil this conspiracy and a meeting of the Organization of Muslim Cooperation should be called on the issue.
Prof Sajid Mir said all Muslim Ummah should become one to safeguard the people of Yemen and a legal government there. He said Pakistani government and Pakistani armed forces would never leave alone Saudi Arabia.
Jamia Binoria Mohtmam Mufti Muhammad Naeem said due to wrong policies of the Muslim leaders, the entire Muslim Ummah was in crises. He said the crisis should be resolved through talks only.
Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said entire Muslim world was ready to protect the Harmain Sharifain and Saudi Arabia.
Nizam-e-Mustafa Party chief Haji Hanif Tayyib said Pakistan should make a consensus decision about taking part in Gulf crisis after taking the parliament into confidence.
