ISLAMABAD: MNA Sardar Nabeel Gabol may withdraw his resignation that he submitted to the National Assembly speaker on Tuesday.
Gabol, who was elected to the National Assembly from Lyari, Karachi, on the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ticket in the last general elections, told The News Thursday evening he will withdraw his resignation if his party asks for it.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain talked to Gabol by phone Thursday evening but he did not ask him to withdraw his resignation, sources said. According to parliamentary sources, Nabeel Gabol visited the NA speaker office Thursday to ask about the status of his resignation. He was told that the resignation had not been accepted as yet.
Another source said he asked for withdrawal of it however, Sardar Gabol claimed he visited the speaker office to collect notification of acceptance of the resignation. Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq says as long as Nabeel Gabol does not meet him personally and confirms about tendering of his resignation, he would not accept it. Gabol did talk to the NA speaker on phone but he has not met him as yet.
To a question, Gabol said Altaf Hussain told him that he heard his views on TV and found them positive. “It has enhanced your esteem in my eyes and I have no grudge against you. Since you want to spend more time in Islamabad and you cannot give much time to Karachi, one can understand your compulsions,” Altaf reportedly told Nabeel Gabol.
Gabol said Altaf Hussain asked him to stay in touch with him as he would also like to maintain contacts with him. Gabol said he had left the MQM and a formal announcement in this regard would be made in a couple of days. To a query he said he would meet Imran Khan on his return from Dubai and they can meet today (Friday) as Khan is due in the city today.
