PARACHINAR: Four soldiers were martyred in a roadside blast in the Ormegi area of Kurram Agency, official sources said on Tuesday.
The sources said that a convoy of security forces was on routine patrolling in the area when it was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED).“Four soldiers were martyred in the blast,” said an official requesting anonymity.
Security forces, the official said, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in which five militants were killed. However, it wasn’t possible to verify this claim from any independent source.
Security forces had launched an offensive against the militants in the `Kurram Agency, primarily in central Kurram, two years ago.The official sources said the operation in Kurram Agency was launched to break the militants’ network in the largely mountainous area. Many people were dislocated and had taken refuge in relief camps or were staying in rented houses outside the Kurram Agency.
