ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has impressed upon the United States that it should take steps to address the strategic imbalance in South Asia.
A senior official at the Foreign Office said this on condition of anonymity on Sunday evening while commenting on the ongoing visit of US President Barrack Obama to India. The official said it was important that the US president’s visit to India contributed to reducing tension in South Asia caused by the aggressive Indian posture.
He reminded that during the recent visit to Pakistan by the US Secretary of State John Kerry, Pakistan had clearly indicated that the US should take steps to address the strategic imbalance in South Asia.
The senior official said Pakistan was studying the visit of the US president to India and was hopeful that the visiting dignitary will exercise his clout and ask India to refrain from creating difficulties for Pakistan that was seriously engaged in fighting terrorism and extremism.
