ISLAMABAD: Petroleum products in Pakistan have witnessed 28.1 to 35 percent reduction in prices since September, 2014 against a record 55 percent cut in prices in the international market.
According to information placed before the National Assembly, the price of High Speed Diesel came down by 28.1 percent and that of Petrol by 35 percent since September. On the other hand, the price of crude oil in the international market plunged by 55 percent from $117 per barrel to around $50 per barrel since June 2014.
In a written reply to another question, Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain told the house that Pakistan’s defence industries and their products had international recognition and were being exported to over 30 countries.He said the IDEAS series exhibition was launched first in the year 2000 to promote defence related products of the public and private sector in Pakistan.
The IDEAS 2014 in Karachi was participated by a total of 333 exhibitors, including 256 international exhibitors and 77 domestic exhibitors, while 77 defence delegations attended this mega event.
The minister also informed the house that at present the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) at Wah Cantt, Sanjwal and Havelian were not facing power shortages. However, daily loadshedding of approximately four to six hours was carried out by the Iesco at the POF Sanjwal during previous years.
He said the case was under process for procurement of 5MW solar power plant for installation at the POF Sanjwal.He said there was also no power shortages at the Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) but there was a need for providing cheaper alternative energy sources for which the HIT was evaluating various proposals of solar and geo-thermal energy.
He said critical facilities at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) had continuous supply whereas critical facilities had back-up generators.The National Assembly session on Wednesday was adjourned till Thursday morning after offering Fateha for the departed soul of ex-MNA Rai Mansab Ali Khan of PML-N. Responding a question raised by MNA Muhammad Muzammil Qureshi, the minister said 35 in Northern Region and 12 licenses of units were suspended in the Southern Region. He said the PSQCA was working efficiently to check the quality of items in Pakistan.
He, however, said large companies had taken stay orders from the Supreme Court against the suspension of their licenses. He said people were being informed through advertisements in newspapers about the low quality water and other eatable items being sold in the country.
Responding to another query, he said controlling the prices of food items after cut in oil prices was the responsibility of the provinces.
