LAHORE: Three suspected terrorists — including a local commander of the TTP’s Fazlullah Group — who were killed by the joint team of a sensitive agency and CIA Police in the small hours of Saturday on Burki Road, have been identified from their national computerised identity cards (CNIC).
The CIA Cantt police claimed that the terrorists were involved in the Wagah Border attack and were planning to carry out terrorist activity at a school in Lahore on the model of the Army Public School, Peshawar, tragedy.
Police removed the bodies to the morgue for autopsy and registered an FIR No 8/15 with the Burki Police Station under sections 324, 353, of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 3, 4, 6 of Explosives Act and 13/20/65 of Arms Ordinance.
The TTP local commander was identified as Roohullah alias Asadullah alias Qureshi, son of Gul Rehman. His two accomplices were Umar Farooq, son of Khaista Rehman, and Miraj Khan, son of Rehman Gul.
CIA DSP Muhammad Umar Farooq told this correspondent that the intelligence agencies had received information about their movement. Following the instructions of senior police officers, a special team comprising CIA Police and a sensitive agency, mounted a picket on Burki Road near Barth Bridge.
After some time, a red-coloured bike without any number plate reached the spot. The police officials signalled the riders to stop but they opened fire and rod the bike towards Jandiala Road along the canal. The police chased and asked them to surrender but they ignored the warning, resulting in an exchange of fire during which the terrorists left the bike. One of them fled towards the fields and blew himself up by detonating explosives, while the other two were found dead after the encounter.
The police recovered three pistols, grenades and CNICs from the scene.
They also called in the Bomb Disposal Squad to defuse the grenades.
Later, a search operation was launched by the forces in nearby localities to arrest their facilitators.
Online: Sources claimed that the terrorists had rented a house on Burki Road and were traced as they were trying to contact Fazlullah. Roohullah is stated to be the mastermind of the Wagah Border attack.
