SUKKUR: The lockdown in Sindh continues for more than two weeks, hurting the daily wagers and labourers is inevitable, while the beggars community is also suffering as its members are not allowed to wander around due to the danger of coronavirus outbreak.
Reports said during the lockdown, markets and restaurants were closed and these places were the main source of a beggars’ income. Mai Sohani told ‘The News’ that her community had badly suffered by the lockdown and they had nothing to feed themselves and their children, while the government and law enforces did not allow them to wander for their livings.Mai Sohani said she usually earned Rs 500 to Rs 600 in a day wandering from shop to shop, adding that she had 11 dependents and used to go to Khairpur city daily for earning. She said also received ration bags from various political and rich people but during the lockdown, no one gave her any support or ration to feed her family. When asked to meet UC chairman, councilors and others, she said the UC chairman and councilors have already refused to provide ration, saying ration is for their voters not for the beggars. She said her community was living in shanties and would ask the government or philanthropists to provide basic essentials to feed their families and let them come out of hunger.
