During their ongoing campaign against narcotics, a team of the Karachi Excise Police recovered 13 kilograms of hashish from a car in the Manghopir neighbourhood of the metropolitan city.

The spokesman for the Sindh Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Department said that a team of the Karachi Excise Police, led by the provincial excise officials, found 13kg hashish in a car (registration No. AKS-584) near Aman Chowk in Manghopir’s Khairabad area.

However, the suspect who was in the vehicle managed to make a clean escape, while a case has been registered against the hitherto unidentified suspect and further investigation is under way, added the spokesman.

Appreciation

Sindh Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Secretary Abdul Halim Shaikh and Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui congratulated the police team on their successful operation, and expressed hope that they would continue their actions against those involved in the illegal drugs business.

Chawla, who is also the provincial parliamentary affairs minister, assured the police team that appreciation certificates and prizes would be awarded to all those officials who performed well.

Liquor shops

Following the Sindh Home Department’s recent order extending the date of the province-wide lockdown in place to slow down the local transmission of the novel coronavirus, the excise, taxation & narcotics control department has also revised the date of the closure of liquor shops.

The notification issued by the department reads: “In continuation to this office order of even No. 1489 dated March 18, 2020 and in view of the current circumstances after the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been decided with the approval of the competent authority that all off-price retail and wholesale shops dealing in the sale and purchase of liquor shall remain closed until April 9, 2020.”
