PFUJ demands journalists’ protection in Sindh during lockdown

March 26, 2020

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) condemned highhandedness of security and paramilitary forces in Sindh with journalists while performing their duties during lockdown in various cities of Sindh.

In a joint statement, PFUJ President Shehzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi said particularly in Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, and other cities media workers, journalists are being beaten on roads by security personnel despite the fact that valid office identity cards issued by media houses are being shown to them.

This is astonishing as it undermines orders from the Sindh government.

It is a normal practice that in such circumstances journalists are allowed to work freely so they can perform their duties without hindrance.

PFUJ demanded the Sindh government and the DG Rangers to probe the situation and provide safety and security to journalists working in the field and for reaching their offices without any trouble and difficulties.
