Tennis activities in Sindh come to a halt due to COVID-19
KARACHI: Tennis activities in Sindh have been hit hard due to the spread of coronavirus pandemic. Sindh, which is the most affected province by the virus, is not going to host any tennis activities for the next few months.
“We have postponed two national level events, 6th McDonald Championship and 18th Westbury Championship, that were scheduled in March. And a Sindh ranking event Afees Trophy has also been postponed,” a senior official of the Sindh Tennis Association (STA) Khalid Rehmani told ‘The News’.
He said that one wheelchair tennis camp and an event on Pakistan Day could also not be held.
“We had made payments for the venues as all arrangements were done but in light of the provincial government’s measures against this virus, we have postponed all activities,” said Khalid. He added that all academies in Karachi are also closed and tennis activities have literally come to a halt in the province.
“We are hopeful that we will be able to resume our activities after Eid. We will first organise all the postponed events,” he said. Khalid added that they have planned many national and Sindh ranking events in the coming months.
“The new events we have in pipeline are Karachi Club tournament, NBP Championship, AS Trophy and Essa Lab Championship. We also regularly organise two Asian level under-14 events in Karachi in October-November,” Khalid said.
