KARACHI: President-elect Mamnoon Hussain has said that all the political parties will have to work in unison to strengthen democracy in the country.

 

He expressed these views while talking to Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq who called on him here at the State Guest House on Sunday.During the meeting, various issues of national importance and concerning parliament came under discussion, said a press release issued by the NA Secretariat.

 

The president-elect said that it was heartening to see that the present parliament consisted of progressive forces and had unanimity of views on major national issues.He said that all the political parties should work together for the betterment of the masses and for the protection of the nascent democracy in the country. He also praised the speaker for conducting the proceeding of the National Assembly effectively.

 

The NA speaker said that peaceful transition of power from one elected government to the other was a landmark achievement of the democratic forces.He was confident that the political parties would bring all the issues of national importance in parliament for discussion and policy formulation for the executive.He apprised the president-elect of the Constitution of the standing committees and proceedings of the House during the fourth session of the National Assembly.
