LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Nawaz Sharif visited the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital on Tuesday to inquire after Imran Khan and suggested playing “a friendly match” with him after he recovers fully.

Imran is undergoing treatment after he got seriously injured in a fall during an election rally in Lahore. Nawaz presented the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief a bouquet and prayed for his health and early recovery.

Later, talking to reporters, Nawaz claimed he had resolved his differences with Imran Khan. He said he recounted a Hadees to Imran which says that it is not permissible for a Muslim to remain angry at a fellow Muslim for more than three days. He hoped Imran would recover fully soon and resume his political activities.

Nawaz said the PTI chairman had congratulated him on his success in the recent polls and he too felicitated Imran Khan on his victory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said he conveyed to Imran that they had no personal enmity and that they should join hands for the betterment of Pakistan which was facing huge crises. He claimed that Imran agreed to maintain a better working relationship with him and to bring the country out of its crises jointly.

Responding to a query, Nawaz said his party respected the mandate of the PTI in KP and it would move forward in the same spirit. “The meeting took place in a very friendly and cordial atmosphere and I will meet Imran again after he fully recovers,” Nawaz said. He claimed that Imran was receptive during the meeting and he admired his high spirits and wanted him to continue with the same spirit. He said he was feeling very happy after meeting the PTI chief and it was his duty to visit him to express his good wishes.

Responding to another query, Nawaz claimed that his party wanted to maintain cordial relations with all countries, including the US, and wanted them to help Pakistan resolve its difficulties. He avoided responding to a query pertaining to rigging allegations in the polls.

The PTI information secretary Dr Shireen Mazari said Nawaz Sharif visited Imran Khan at the SKMTH in Lahore, where Imran reminded him about the need to resolve the Taliban issue. In a statement from Islamabad, she said Imran Khan congratulated Mian Sahib and Nawaz reciprocated with regards to PTI’s victory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Imran pointed out to Nawaz that it was incumbent on both of them to resolve the Taliban issue otherwise there could be no peace in the country. She said Mian Sahib agreed with Imran. The PTI chief reminded Nawaz that the perspective of both the parties on this issue was similar and both should be prepared to work together for the resolution of this major issue confronting Pakistan today.

Nawaz said he would call on Imran Khan again when he was better. The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere where both recognised their political differences as well as the need to bring peace to the country.
