LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways came across a strange situation after the cashier made away with Rs 2.3 million, meant for employees’ salaries. It was business as usual before Ali Imran Bokhari, the cashier, did not reach the office and his mobile phone was also found switched off. Earlier, the cashier had returned from Wazirabad after distributing the salaries of the railway employees there and had called the Divisional Pay Master (DMP) to inform that he had been given insufficient funds to dispense all salaries.
The DPM called him back to the Railway Headquarters so that the matters could be sorted out in accordance with the balance sheets and other documents. The meeting revealed that Ali Imran had been given the full amount and the discrepancies in funds and payments were at his end. Upon this, Ali Imran told the DPM that he might have done miscalculation and would set things right on Monday.The cashier was due to go to Wazirabad to give salaries to the engineering department employees on Monday.
