ISLAMABAD: The poor will continue to experience more economic miseries as the government has increased the price of petrol by Rs1.73 per litre and CNG by Rs1.59 per kg from Sept 24 (today) for the next week.

 

This means that the price of both the products has swelled by Rs8 in just 15 days.The government earlier increased the petrol price from Sept 17 by a whopping Rs6.82 per litre and CNG by Rs6.24 per kg.

 

The government did not pay heed to Ogra’s recommendation that had sought maintaining the petrol price at the existing level and reducing other POL prices by Rs6.06 per litre. The price increase is effective from today (Sept 24).

 

In a summary to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources, according to officials, Ogra had recommended not to increase the price of petrol from Monday and instead asked the government to reduce the prices of other POL products by up to Rs6.06 per unit.

 

However, the Finance Division did not agree to reduce the petroleum levy on petrol, and decided to increase its price by Rs1.73 per litre by extending the recommendation to the government.

 

The CNG price in region-I, comprising Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been raised by Rs1.59 to Rs99.28 per kg from Rs97.69 and in region-II, covering Sindh and Punjab, it has been increased by Rs1.45 to Rs90.70 per kg from Rs89.25 per kg.

 

However, the price of other petroleum products includinghigh-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced for the upcoming week. The government has reduced the price of HOBC (high octane blending component) by Rs6.06 per litre, high speed diesel (HSD) Rs0.47 per litre, light diesel oil (LDO) Rs2.10 per litre, kerosene Rs3.50 per litre.

 

The new price of petrol from Monday will stand at Rs108.45 per litre compared to the earlier price of Rs106.72, HOBC Rs131.9 per litre compared to Rs137.96 per litre, kerosene Rs101.63 per litre compared to Rs104.68 per litre, HSD Rs113.30 per litre compared to Rs113.77 per litre and LDO Rs97.17 per litre compared to Rs99.27 per litre.
