ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday said no institution, including the police, NAB and FIA, was functioning efficiently, and it was difficult to decide which institution should be given the task of investigations.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the CJ, rejected the report presented by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Isaf containers case and asked both the institutions to present a progress report on the probe on a daily basis.

The chief justice ordered action against those responsible for corruption, and said no leniency should be shown in this regard, adding that public money should be returned to the public. “NAB, instead of taking action against the culprits, is complicating the matter,” the CJ lamented. The court later adjourned the hearing till September 17.
