LAHORE: Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that democracy in Pakistan is only because of parliament and not an individual but institutions possessed supremacy.

He also added that government will take action in all those areas of the country where anti-Pakistan elements are working. Addressing an Iftar reception hosted for journalists on Thursday, the federal minister stated that PPP had always paid respect to judiciary whether it was given justice or not and in future as well, it would keep following this tradition.

Kaira said debate over any issue was a sign of democracy but unfortunately, people of some school of thought had started to compare the democratic government with dictatorial era of Musharraf.

The minister said it was unfortunate that most of the people who remained the supporters of dictatorial eras were now linking the issue of governance, loadshedding etc with the failure of democracy, which wasn’t true.

He said in 1985, the country witnessed general elections on non-party basis and the entire nation had suffered due to that step. He said a lot was said about the governance in form of debates it shouldn’t be forgotten that issue of governance had occurred due to repeated ‘unconstitutional interventions’.
