QUETTA: Four personnel of Balochistan Constabulary (BC) were killed and 12 others injured when a powerful bomb exploded near the BC trucks in Shahpuk area of Turbat district on Tuesday night.
Officials of the Turbat administration said that a convoy of BC was on its way from Quetta to Turbat to make security arrangements for a fair in Turbat, which will begin next week. When the convoy reached the Shahpuk area, it was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb.
“The explosives were BC’s trucks approached the site the powerful remote control bomb went off with a big bang,” Deputy Commissioner Kech Abdul Fateh Bhangar told The News. The deputy commissioner Turbat confirmed that four personnel of BC were killed and 12 others injured.
Reports suggested that the bomb was planted near Turbat Road. When the trucks carrying BC’s personnel reached the site, the blast took place at around 9:15 PM. The blast was so powerful that the BC’s truck was damaged badly and all the 16 personnel sustained multiple injuries, while four of them breathed their last on the spot.
Due to poor health facilities and paucity of ambulances in the Basic Health Unit of Shahpuk, the injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital in private vehicles for medical treatment. Reports said that there was heap of flesh and limbs scattered with pools of blood in the truck and injured were seen crying with agony, eye witnesses told The News.
On being informed, security forces, Levies force, and district administration reached on the spot and cordoned off the area. Officials of the district administration believed that it was a remote-controlled device which had been planted near the road.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani has expressed his deep grief over the killings of the BC’s personnel in the powerful bomb explosion. He directed the concerned authorities to submit report of the incident and utilise all resources for apprehending those involved in the incident. He lauded the sacrifices rendered by the BC’s personnel for maintaining law and order.
