ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting was held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday with President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the chair to review the energy crisis and explore ways to address it.
Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Water and Power Ch Ahmad Mukhtar, Petroleum Advisor Dr Asim Hussain among others attended the meeting. Briefing on the meeting, presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said it was in continuation of a series of earlier meetings.
He said the water minister informed the meeting that 18 pylons of high voltage were damaged as a result of heavy winds in Muzzafargarhlast week that caused aloss of 1,800 MW. Ch Mukhtar said 11 pylons have been re-erected restoring 1,100MW of power while the remaining 700 MW of power will be restored within the next 24 hours.
Dr Asim gave a briefing on the supply of furnace oil and gas to the power plants. The president directed that the distribution companies must ensure equitable distribution of electricity. The spokesperson said the meeting was also briefed on the implementation status of the president’s directives including the setting up of special control room in the ministry of water and power.
