KARACHI: The Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) expressed its deep regret and sorrow over the apathetic and negligent attitude of the Sindh government as it did not take any action against the unknown miscreants who attacked the Daily Jang, Geo TV and The News offices on March 21, 2012, says a press release.

 

According to details, the attackers stopped the newspapers delivery vans in early morning and burnt all the newspapers. The matter was brought to the notice of Raja Muhammad Abbas, Chief Secretary, Sindh through letter dated March 22, 2012 who forwarded the same to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Sindh for taking appropriate action in the matter as per rules. A separate letter was written by the PCP on April 16, 2012 to Additional Chief Secretary Home, Sindh but to the great dismay there had been no response to this effect.

 

Another unfortunate incident took place in Karachi in which Ehsan Kohati, a journalist and Mr. Fareed, a photographer were fired at and were critically injured in November, 2011. It was also brought to the notice of provincial interior minister and Chief Secretary, Sindh but there was no response from any quarter.

 

The matter was put up in the combined meeting of inquiry committees of PCP chaired by Raja M Shafqat Khan Abbasi, Chairman PCP, which showed great concern and sorrow over the lethargic attitude of the authorities concerned.

 

The PCP committee called upon the Sindh government to look into the matter and direct authorities concerned to take appropriate action so that such incident could be avoided in future.
